"I have seen too many students that, while understanding the algebraic concept of factorisation, can not easily spot the common numerical factors. Hopefully this game might help improve common factor spotting ability."

"Hi, Transum!
I love your website. Have been teaching middle and for six years and your starters are my most-used warm-ups.
Have been watching and playing Connect 4 as an individual today and noticed that it is possible to end with two holes and two numbers which violate the rules, preventing a win. Is it possible to win?
Thank you.

[Transum: Thank you for your kind words Tamra. This activity has now been updated so that the numbers that appear are chosen in such a way that it is always possible to fill the grid. This was not the case when you tried so please have another go. Good luck.]"

"Hi, I think your website is really cool and I just had a question. Is a win possible? I've tried many, many times and I just can't figure it out since it always goes red because there are 4 factors in a row.

[Transum: Yes Emily. It is certainly possible but quite difficult. Instead of trying to fill the board, set yourself the challenge of getting as many numbers on the board as possible before a red line appears. Then work to beat your personal best. Recognising the common factors is a good skill for you to develop. Good luck]"
