This is level 1; Construct the diagrams using a ruler and pair of compasses. Give your answers in centimetres to one decimal place.

1. At the top of a page draw a horizontal straight line, AB, 10cm long.
Point C lies on this line exactly 5cm from the point A.
Draw the point D further down the page such that AD is 8cm
and BD is 12cm.
Measure the distance CD.

cm Correct Wrong

2. In the centre of a page draw a vertical line, AC, that is 12cm long.
DB is 11cm long and is the perpendicular bisector of AC and AC is the perpendicular bisector of DB.
Measure the length of one side of rhombus ABCD.

cm Correct Wrong

3. Draw triangle ABC such that:
AB is 9.7cm, BC is 12.1cm and CA is 12.3cm.
Use compasses and ruler to bisect the angle BÂC and extend this bisector until it reaches line BC at point D.
Measure the distance CD.

cm Correct Wrong

4. Draw the perpendicular bisector of a 11.3cm horizontal line and use it to draw an isoceles triangle of height 11.5cm.
What is the length of either of the two sloping sides of the triangle.

cm Correct Wrong

5. XY is the diameter of a semicircle. XY is of length 14.6cm.

Why am I learning this?

Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician?
